Belts

V-belts are a type of mechanical belt used primarily for power transmission between rotating shafts. V-belts transfer rotational motion and power from one shaft to another, typically from a motor to a driven component. Their trapezoidal (V-shaped) cross-section fits into pulley grooves, increasing friction and reducing slippage. They can cushion sudden changes in load, protecting machinery. By using pulleys of different diameters, V-belts can change the speed of the driven shaft. Synchronous belts, also known as timing belts, are designed to transmit power while maintaining precise synchronization between the driving and driven shafts. They ensure exact timing between components, making them ideal for applications where synchronization is critical. The toothed design meshes with pulley grooves (teeth), eliminating slippage and maintaining constant speed ratios. They offer high efficiency (up to 98%) and are quieter than chain drives.Unlike chains, they don’t require lubrication and have a longer service life under proper conditions.
